The hectic start of the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid saw Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen clash at the first corner. The Englishman, completely on the inside, leaned on the curb and re-entered the track at the chicane without leaving space for the Dutchman. Verstappen then cut the corner, gaining the position.

To avoid potential penalties, Red Bull asked its driver to give the position back to Hamilton, so Max lifted his foot and had to let not only the Ferrari driver pass but also Andrea Kimi Antonelli who was following him.
The four-time world champion did not appreciate his team’s move at all, as he made clear in post-race interviews.

Hamilton responds to Verstappen
To journalists waiting for him after retiring due to a braking system problem, Hamilton explained: “I had a good start, I didn’t see Max.”
Regarding Verstappen’s words referring to a “Mickey Mouse Race” describing the start overall, Hamilton cut it short: “To be honest it was a good battle.”
