F1 Madrid, Qualifying Report
Out of nowhere, or almost, Lando Norris takes pole position in the Madrid Qualifying thanks to a fantastic lap, which the world champion does not hesitate to call “one of the best of my life“. A McLaren that was sneaky until Q3 takes flight at the decisive moment, with the Englishman elevating it like a champion: beaten by 11 thousandths is Kimi Antonelli, who this time must bow to a driver who in 2026 is proving he does not have the world crown on his head by chance.

Norris – 1:31.824 – is very good at optimizing a weekend in which he was always chasing, with FP2 missed due to technical problems and a McLaren that seemed the third force. The papaya, however, evidently hid themselves, because the track layout has similarities with those of Zandvoort and Hungaroring. The best Norris was needed for this pole, but the MCL40 has stepped up and tomorrow it can achieve a hat-trick of wins, considering how difficult overtaking will be.
Antonelli can be happy with second position, the same cannot be said for Ferrari. Lewis Hamilton is fourth behind Max Verstappen: after finishing first in the initial time attack, the Englishman pays a costly mistake at the first chicane and does not improve in the second attempt at pole. Tomorrow he will still have Charles Leclerc on his tail and it will be interesting to see if the post-Monza discussions will impact the two Ferrari drivers: the Monegasque, author of a very good lap, can be satisfied to have finished only six thousandths behind his teammate despite the absence of the ADUO-2.
Another disappointing Saturday for George Russell, sixth at three tenths from pole position; in the fourth row Oscar Piastri and Liam Lawson. Very good Franco Colapinto to reach Q3 after a very dangerous slide at the Monumental: ninth position for the Argentine ahead of Arvid Lindblad, now a very young certainty in this F1.
