Verstappen’s hope
“I want to feel the chills, the noise, the goosebumps from the V8 engines, the ones I was used to hearing around the paddock as a child.” Max Verstappen expressed all his ‘nostalgia’ for the F1 of the past, which was never really his since he has always raced with the turbo-hybrid era F1 cars, very heavy vehicles.

Interviewed by the BBC, Verstappen emphasized his hope for light and noisy cars as soon as possible: “I don’t care about going 300 km/h instead of 350 or 360 km/h – said Verstappen – F1 must return to V8s even if just for a simple matter of drivability. We need light cars that respond immediately to the driver’s inputs.”
“Even last generation power units are horrible compared to a V8, which is the best for a racing car – added Verstappen – I would reduce the batteries to a minimum, just to have some sort of push-to-pass and I would also exclude the turbo to avoid the turbo-lag problem.”
