The damage at Monza
The heavy impact of Charles Leclerc at the Parabolica at Monza risked having rather serious consequences for the Monegasque ahead of the next race in Madrid.
In the accident, the power unit of the Ferrari SF-26 in fact remained on for quite a while, raising serious doubts about its integrity.
And also the chassis was damaged, which is why on Tuesday evening Ferrari carried out thorough checks on the Monegasque’s car. The real risk was the disappointment of starting from the back in Madrid, with a hypothetical engine or parts replacement, which would have meant grid penalties.

Leclerc, a sigh of relief
The checks carried out by the team, however, gave a reassuring result, as reported by the colleagues at AutoRacer.it.
The power unit seems to be reusable, since no significant damage or faults were found. A final check on track in Madrid will be needed, but the unit will be regularly mounted on Leclerc’s SF-26.

And so the chassis showed no structural damage and only the gearbox will be replaced, but without incurring penalties.
In Spain then Charles Leclerc will have the chance to redeem the disastrous weekend at Monza.
