It is not only the extraordinary successes of Andrea Kimi Antonelli that keep the Italian tricolor high in F1. Looking ahead to 2027, in fact, our country could be very close to fielding another driver on the grid: Leonardo Fornaroli. The 2024 F3 and 2025 F2 champion, contracted by McLaren as a reserve, is in fact very close to joining Haas for next year. Fornaroli would replace Esteban Ocon as a full-time driver, while still remaining within McLaren’s orbit, which would ‘lend’ him to the American team to help him grow and pair him with Oliver Bearman.

Italy-Japan Challenge
According to information gathered by FormulaPassion.it the agreement between Haas and the Italian driver is close to completion.
The main ‘rival’ of Fornaroli at the moment is the Japanese Yuki Tsunoda. His performances as a substitute at Racing Bulls have been appreciated by Ayao Komatsu and Haas management, and historically the American team always wants to have a driver with a certain level of experience on the squad.

Journalist Marc Limacher, from the site businessbookgp.com, reported that there has already been a meeting between Tsunoda and the American team in Zandvoort. The issue could be resolved in the coming weeks, but Italy’s motorsport hopes that another young talent capable of making fans dream will join Antonelli, finally allowing the public to rejoice after many lean years.
