Monza without points
Winner of six Italian GPs, the last of which in 2001 with Juan-Pablo Montoya, Williams is experiencing a particularly delicate moment in its history. Apparently improving last season, the Grove-based team is facing another results crisis, with the last Monza weekend seeing its cars out of the points zone.

From Leclerc to his race
After the controversy over the contact between the two drivers in the previous race at Zandvoort, this time the race saw Sainz and Albon finish the GP regularly, with the former Ferrari driver in 13th place and the Williams record holder for races contested in 17th. Regarding the race at the ‘Temple of Speed’, the Spaniard commented: “First of all, I am happy to see Charles (Leclerc) uninjured after such a serious accident. On our side, we had a great race today and an overall positive weekend, considering our limits. Yesterday we had a solid qualifying and today we had a good start and a good race pace. The pit stop during the Virtual Safety Car allowed us to overtake Ocon, thanks also to an excellent intervention by our mechanics, and the good pace allowed us to overtake Bearman at the end. Now I look forward to racing in Madrid next weekend.”

The risk of the single stop
Leclerc’s accident pushed many drivers to opt for a tire change, with Albon playing the card of only one set of tires. A gamble that did not pay off: “We tried to push to the maximum and use only one set of hard tires after the red flag, but inevitably we had some degradation towards the end of the race. It was worth the risk. The race pace was the best we’ve had for some time, thanks to the new power unit installed this weekend, but it also shows what we have available and what we need to do to reach our goals. We need to review today’s strategy and understand what we could have done differently: we had a good race, but there is always something to improve. Madrid will be a completely different track and it won’t be easy, but we look forward to facing the challenge.”
