Ecclestone stopped in Portugal
Bernie Ecclestone is making headlines once again: the former F1 boss was stopped at Tires airport, near Cascais (Portugal). The reason is quite unusual: illegal carrying of a firearm among his luggage; following a routine check after the landing of his private jet, authorities found in his possession a smoothbore shotgun. This was reported by the Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã.

At the moment, it is not known what judicial process will follow, in particular whether Ecclestone will be brought before a judge or released.
This is not the first time Ecclestone has gotten into such trouble. Four years ago, the former F1 boss was stopped in Brazil for the same accusation, after a pistol was found in his luggage. Ecclestone admitted to owning the weapon, but said it ended up “without his knowledge” in the suitcase. He was released on bail.

The former Formula 1 CEO owns a Dassault Falcon 7X, a private jet valued at around 40 million euros. At 95 years old, he currently divides most of his daily life between Switzerland and Portugal, and also owns a residence in Brazil, where his wife Fabiana Flosi’s family lives.
