The Most Beautiful Day
The first words from the winner of the Italian GP in Monza, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, arrive at the microphones of Sky Sport F1. The Bolognese talent accomplished a legendary feat, climbing from 19th to first and gifting himself the most beautiful victory of his career. It had been since 1966 that an Italian driver had not won the home race: now the curse is broken.

“I never thought I would be here today. It’s absurd. I’m still trying to realize what just happened – Kimi commented to the Italian TV – I had said that winning here was a dream and today we managed to make it come true. After the second start, when I saw that I was up front I said to myself ‘I have to win this today, I have to win this’. And I am really happy because it was a fantastic day. And then the support from the fans today was incredible“.
Celebrating Crowd
A crowd split between Ferrari fans and Antonelli fans was expected in Monza, but the Monza crowd – perhaps also due to the total debacle of the Maranello team – united in support of the very young Bolognese who achieved another feat far from easy: convincing the ‘red’ crowd to cheer for a Mercedes victory at the Italian GP. “During the race, at the exit of the first chicane, I saw the right grandstand and saw that everyone was hyped up – Antonelli commented – and there was an incredible charge. So I have to thank all the fans because today they gave me that little something extra”.
