The Italian Grand Prix trophy is commissioned every year to Italian artists as part of a multi-year project, now in its sixth edition, promoted by Pirelli, the race’s title sponsor, together with the contemporary art museum Pirelli HangarBicocca.

For the 2026 edition, the creation was entrusted to vedovamazzei, a duo formed by Stella Scala and Simeone Crispino, who develop their artistic practice between irony and the ability to grasp contradictions and complexities of reality. Their works often reinterpret everyday objects, highlighting the paradoxical aspects of the world around us.

The FRAGILE trophy is precisely a layered composition of household objects, cups and bowls, sculptural elements that, stacked one on top of the other, take on a vertical shape with a precarious appearance.

The work required a traditional process of transposing drawings and sketches onto paper and subsequently a highly technological realization of 3D printing with nylon powder, a material then painted, electroplated and polished until it became mirror-like.

The meaning of the trophy

The artists explain: “The idea of the trophy starts from a reflection on the concept of a celebratory cup as it was used in antiquity when it was used as a large chalice for drinking, with a sense of celebration and shared festivity.”

“We wanted to make the trophy the symbol of a victory that the individual holds concretely but that reflects the mood of a community: in the case of Formula 1, the team, the fans and the whole world around the drivers. The composition also refers to a daily dimension, to a repeated gesture that refers to the effort of a victory that is won lap after lap and that never corresponds to an eternal and unalterable status. It is unstable, lasts a short time and then must be won back. It is, indeed, fragile.”

The commission to vedovamazzei follows commissions to artists Alice Ronchi (2021), Patrick Tuttofuoco (2022), Ruth Beraha (2023), Andrea Sala (2024) and Nico Vascellari (2025).
