What future for Yamaha
The recent controversies raised by Fabio Quartararo have only increased the confusion around the Yamaha world, which is certainly not experiencing its best season in MotoGP.
The fifth place in Barcelona is the best result of this 2026 that sees the Iwata factory last by a margin in the constructors’ world championship with 78 points, against Honda’s 129, KTM’s 231, Ducati’s 375, and Aprilia’s 390.
With the signing of Jorge Martin and Ai Ogura and especially with the regulatory revolution of 2027, Yamaha is more than ever called to reverse course.
And it could do so with a surprise name, that of Fabiano Sterlacchini, the technical director of Aprilia capable of winning 7 of the 13 races held so far.

Is Sterlacchini coming?
For a few weeks behind the scenes of MotoGP there has been talk of a possible unexpected move on the technical side, on which however no one has wanted to speak publicly.
This rumor was reported by Marco Melandri, in the podcast ‘Chiacchiere da box’ with Davide Valsecchi and would concern precisely Fabiano Sterlacchini and a very important offer from Yamaha.

Thus Melandri: “There could be a change of team that in my opinion could be really really important. It could be, because I am not certain, that Fabiano Sterlacchini – the technical director of Aprilia – is heavily courted by Yamaha. Yamaha is willing to do anything to win, because always being behind is counterproductive. Let’s see if it will come true.”
