The analysis | Marquez master, just four laps to secure the Aragon victory

Everyone expected a Marc Marquez winning at Aragon and the reigning world champion did not disappoint, conquering after Saturday’s Sprint also the Sunday GP and strongly relaunching himself in the race for his tenth world title. Now the Ducati champion is second in the World Championship with a gap of 19 points from Jorge Martin and five points ahead of the other Aprilia of Marco Bezzecchi.

On the MotorLand track, after a start this time less effective than Saturday’s due to the failure to ‘disarm’ the rear lowering device in the first corners, Marquez took six laps to take the lead of the race. From that moment on, however, the red #93 never left the lead. The toughest opponent was Pedro Acosta, with the KTM, but looking at the lap times it is clearly evident how Marquez ‘only needed’ to change pace for a few laps to shatter even the resistance of his future teammate.

Four laps to sweep away the competition

The analysis of Marc Marquez’s race pace shows very clearly how the world champion won the race between the 13th and 16th lap. At the end of lap 12 Marquez was still closely followed by Acosta, less than three tenths behind him, and Marco Bezzecchi was not far away either, exactly one second from the leader.

At that point Marquez played his ace: for four consecutive laps the Ducati rider lapped under the 1:47 barrier; he was the only one to manage it in the race. Four almost identical laps in 1:46.9, 1:46.7, 1:46.9, 1:46.8. Like a tornado relentlessly striking the hopes of rivals, after these four laps the competition slipped away far behind.

Over the course of four laps Acosta lost one second and three tenths to Marquez and Bezzecchi one second and six tenths. After digging the gap he needed, moreover just after passing the halfway mark of the race, Marquez returned to lap between 1:47.2 and 1:47.4, managing the margin behind him. An obvious demonstration of strength to which Aprilia will now be called to respond at Misano, on a track that in theory should be more favorable to the Noale factory. Meanwhile, the World Championship is more open than ever.
