Lando Norris talks about his love for McLaren
Lando Norris has renewed his contract with McLaren, tying himself to the Woking team for another four years. Thus, the reigning Formula 1 world champion will remain within the papaya garage at least until the end of the 2030 season, when he will have turned 31 and competed in 12 world championships with the English team. A signature that is therefore also an unconditional declaration of love for the team that raised him, brought him to his F1 debut, and fulfilled the dream of the Drivers’ title in 2025.

“It’s the continuation of my last contract – explains the 26-year-old from Bristol in an exclusive interview with the official Formula 1 website – and now we just want to focus on doing our best, getting the most out of performance, making the most of everyone’s potential, and focusing on the importance of not getting involved in the chaos of market negotiations. I didn’t want to distract my team, I don’t want to distract the guys and girls who are here to provide me with the best possible car and to allow me to do the best possible job for them. For me, it’s like a way to say ‘Guys, I’m here to stay and for a long time’, which gives the whole environment a nice boost. And it gives me a boost too.”
Beyond the results
A decision, that of tying himself for life or almost to McLaren, which is certainly helped by the fact that the team is competitive and winning, and that it has recently gotten back on track after a rather complex start to the 2026 season. For Lando Norris, however, performance is not everything and in any case not decisive for such a long-term commitment: “In 99% of cases you can say that results are the most important thing, but there is also some leeway, an advantage in the fact that now I am with the people I want to be with and with whom I enjoy spending my career. I didn’t want to go from one team to another doing different things. I want to be where I am happy and, even when we weren’t winning, I was still happy to be part of McLaren.”

“One thing I have always been sure of for my future is that I want to achieve results, obviously, and the team knows that better than anyone else. But I also just want to be where I am happiest and, even if we don’t win like at the start of this year, it’s not that I want to change. I am still very satisfied with the people I work with and happy to face together any challenge that awaits us,” concluded Lando Norris.
