Stroll rejects Honda (again)
Honda approached the Zandvoort weekend with great confidence, talking about good progress: Lance Stroll does not see it “not even remotely“, just to reiterate the atmosphere within the team.
The Canadian, eliminated like Fernando Alonso in Q1 in the Qualifying of the Dutch GP, appreciated the improvements made by Adrian Newey, evident since the Hungaroring. But help is also needed from the power unit updated with the ADUO. Which, for Stroll and Alonso, not only has not solved any problems but is creating others.
Stroll’s words
“Not even remotely a significant step forward. Maybe it is possible to see an improvement, but it is not enough“, Stroll commented on Aston Martin’s difficulties. “As far as the chassis is concerned, I think we are in a good place. We made a big step forward in Budapest, but we need to focus on drivability and power. There are many problems and with engine braking it’s a lottery entering the corner, often we can’t downshift properly“.

Alonso basically shares the same opinion, between a chassis defined as “excellent” and criticism of the power unit, although using milder terms: “Regarding the drivability of the engine we can’t do much from the track. This help must come from Japan and it’s not something you can get overnight. Towards Monza we need to make a further step forward. There are a couple of tenths to gain from the package“.
With these corrections, the AMR26 has left Cadillac with the little honorable title of worst car in the field, showing it can compete, within a few races, in the midfield package. Provided, certainly, that Honda catches up.
