Last chance for Verstappen in his Netherlands: the record of wins at Zandvoort

2026: the last Dutch GP

The next Formula 1 World Championship event will be historic in some respects for the Netherlands and the Zandvoort circuit, which has always hosted the Circus in all 35 editions held so far in the Netherlands. This year’s race will, in fact, be the last to take place in this country, as it will not be confirmed on the calendar from the next championship onwards.

Verstappen’s mission

A low blow for the ‘Orange’ fans, who will fill the grandstands not only to watch the last race but also to cheer their home hero Max Verstappen. Since F1 returned to the Netherlands in 2021, after an absence since 1985, the Red Bull driver has won three consecutive victories (from 2021 to 2023), but despite this he has not set the record for the most wins at Zandvoort.

The goal, however, could be achieved this year, equaling Jim Clark with four wins. For now, Verstappen shares the number of victories with other multiple world champions such as Jackie Stewart and Niki Lauda, but a possible ‘fourth win’ in his Netherlands would allow him not only to claim his first victory of the season but also to match Clark’s number of wins, all achieved in the 1960s. Like Verstappen, the Englishman stood on the top step of the podium three times in a row (from 1963 to 1965), then completed the feat in 1967. For Verstappen, therefore, the 2026 GP will be the last chance to close the Zandvoort chapter in F1 history in style.
