Leader leaving, again
After a 2025 spent more in hospital than on the track against his will, Jorge Martin has this year returned to raise his head and after the Assen weekend he incredibly reclaimed the leadership of the world championship standings that he had missed since the end of the 2024 season, when he was crowned world champion making history together with the Pramac team. Today as then, Martin finds himself in a very particular situation: he is indeed in the running to win a World title while separated at home, since his next transfer to Yamaha in 2027 has already been announced.

Yet another revolution
Martin’s move is certainly a gamble, since he will leave what is currently the best bike on the grid to join a manufacturer that is now the tail-ender of MotoGP and has not won a Grand Prix since 2022. The regulatory revolution of the next season, with the switch to 850cc engines, Pirelli tires, and less impact from aerodynamic appendages, could however represent the ideal context to try to make this gamble work. Certainly, at least according to what was reported to the site Motosan.es by Aleix Espargarò, Honda test rider and a great personal friend of Martin, the Madrid rider had been waiting for this moment for a long time.

Right choice?
“He never felt fully accomplished – Espargarò said of Martin – he wanted to be the leader, the captain of a great Japanese company, and Yamaha gave him this opportunity. With the regulation change, it could prove to be a very smart move. They have made excellent acquisitions. Both Jorge and Ai Ogura can mark an era there“, Aleix concluded. Time will tell if this time too Martin has picked the right moment to change colors.
