Who is Johnson?

Former United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom during Donald Trump’s first term, Wood Johnson is already present in the sports world; besides being owner of the New York Jets in the NFL (American football league), he is also co-owner of the English football team Crystal Palace. In addition, he is also the heir of the global pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson.

Welcomed by the team’s executive chairman, Lawrence Stroll, Aston Martin officially announced Robert Johnson’s entry with this statement: “Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team today announced that Robert Wood Johnson, former United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom, has acquired a strategic minority stake in the company and, with immediate effect, will join the Board of Directors as vice chairman. Johnson’s proven track record and extensive experience in sports franchise investments, combined with his considerable network of relationships with influential personalities, make him an ideal partner for Aston Martin Aramco. Thanks to his interests in the NFL and the English Premier League, his involvement in the team will help develop valuable commercial synergies and collaboration opportunities in the global sports landscape. The investment further demonstrates the strong appeal and positive momentum the team is experiencing, at an unprecedented growth phase for Formula 1, especially in the United States. Johnson will focus on supporting the team’s commercial growth, particularly in the United States, but will have no responsibilities in the day-to-day management of the team. Lawrence Stroll, as Executive Chairman and controlling shareholder, will continue to manage and control the company.”

Johnson, who will therefore continue in the role of vice chairman, expressed his first statements: “During my time as United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom, I developed a deep admiration for Aston Martin’s rich history, as well as for Lawrence Stroll’s strategic vision and entrepreneurial spirit. I am excited to collaborate with him and contribute to the further development of the team, with the ambition to build an organization capable of competing at the highest levels of this sport. We also share the commitment to grow the fanbase in the United States and to introduce the excitement of Formula 1 to an even larger number of enthusiasts.”
