From debut to Red Bull
In his Formula 1 experience that began at AlphaTauri (now Racing Bulls) at the 2023 Dutch GP to replace the injured Daniel Ricciardo, the career of Liam Lawson has so far been marked by ups and downs. On the occasion of his debut, the New Zealander delivered a convincing performance, repeating other notable performances always with Racing Bulls in the last six races of the 2024 championship, with results that earned him a promotion to Red Bull in 2025.
The demotion
However, after only two races, the chapter with the Milton Keynes team ended without any satisfaction, with a difficult return to the Faenza team as teammate of Isack Hadjar, now at Red Bull. This year, on the contrary, the 24-year-old has bounced back sharing the garage with rookie Arvid Lindblad, but continuation in the team for the next championship remains in question, at least according to some rumors.
The rumors about 2027
According to these latest, in fact, Lawson could be replaced by another driver raised in the Red Bull Junior Team like Nikola Tsolov. Currently competing in Formula 2 and in full fight with Gabriele Minì for the leadership of the standings, the Bulgarian is highly appreciated by the Racing Bulls team principal Alan Permane, who has fully recognized the talent of the 19-year-old: “It’s a nice problem to have, Tsolov will knock on the door very soon – he explained in an interview with El Mundo Deportivo – having too many good drivers is always a good problem. He is doing an impressive job and we are following him very closely. He is doing an excellent job.”

Recognition also for Lawson
Permane therefore praised the very young talent of the Campos team, but did the same with his driver, considering that the latter is regularly doing his job after a rather complicated 2025: “Liam has been incredible this year, honestly – he added – we talk a lot about Arvid, rightly so, but Liam had a very difficult start. Moreover, he found himself competing with Isack Hadjar, an extraordinary talent. This year, however, Liam has done exactly everything we asked of him. He is totally focused, still very fast, seizes opportunities when they arise, makes no mistakes and is doing a fantastic job. He is well positioned in the overall world championship standings. He is exactly what we ask of him, and he is achieving it.”
