Friday to forget
Yesterday at the press conference Lewis Hamilton said he was dreaming of a victory at Zandvoort, on one of the few tracks where he has never won in his career. However, the Englishman’s weekend has not taken a good turn so far: in today’s Sprint Qualifying, the #44 of Ferrari did not go beyond a disappointing seventh position which complicates the hopes for tomorrow’s short race.

It is not clear whether this obvious step back compared to this morning’s FP1 could be related to the new floor, fitted by Ferrari mechanics on the two SF-26s just before qualifying.
“It was not a good session unfortunately – Hamilton admitted to Sky Sports F1 microphones at the end of the day – but it went like this. The first FP1 session seemed good, we made some small adjustments to the car but then when we went to qualifying it was a total disaster, we need to understand what went wrong and we will do our best tomorrow“.
Regarding his hopes for the Sprint – and possible adjustments to the car ahead of the ‘real’ Qualifying – Hamilton did not want to commit: “We will examine the data and make a decision. We just need to examine the data and understand, analyzing the situation, why [this Qualifying] did not go well”.
