Verstappen celebrates contract renewal at home

Today more than ever, Max Verstappen is the cover man of F1. The four-time world champion has returned home (Zandvoort), and at home (Red Bull) he will stay for a long time: just a few hours ago the official confirmation of his contract renewal with the Milton Keynes team until 2030.

The cameras in the Netherlands are all on him, and even in the classic FIA 2 pm press conference Verstappen was a true star. The Red Bull driver gave comments on the contract extension, but showed he is already looking ahead. He made it clear right away: staying beyond 2030 depends on the direction F1 will want to take. And, specifically, on the introduction of V8 engines.

Verstappen’s words

It wasn’t too stressful to make this decision. I think it’s also the right one, I feel very good within the team and we have a strong belief that we can return to the top in the future. I was undecided about continuing in F1, but the rules are slowly improving and I am willing to live with them,” this is Verstappen’s comment. “I hope that by 2030 another opportunity may open up, maybe with the potential arrival of V8 engines. I have no idea what will happen in 2031, but it can be said that my future will depend more on the direction F1 wants to take.”

Verstappen naturally also had words for the Zandvoort weekend, the last before the circuit leaves the F1 calendar: “Knowing it’s the last race here, I want to try to keep a positive atmosphere and I want to try to enjoy the weekend as best as possible. The history you feel here will be missed, the fans who love motorsport, and then a nice track, which is very rewarding if you manage to interpret it correctly. It’s a track that requires old-school driving, one of the most beautiful, certainly better than some of the tracks on the calendar: I won’t name them, but they lack a bit of character.”

At Zandvoort Verstappen will try to properly celebrate the renewal with his fans and continue the good momentum with Red Bull. After a stormy start, the Dutchman has achieved three podiums in the last four GPs. In front of the orange tide, he has never finished lower than second place.
